American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) and Harborside Press Announce Commitment to Publish New Oncology Monthly, The ASCO Post

ALEXANDRIA, Va.  —The American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) and Harborside Press announced today a commitment to launch a new monthly publication for the cancer community, The ASCO Post. This newspaper-style publication will report on the latest news in clinical cancer research, patient care and policy, and include timely commentary on the most important issues facing the field. Harborside Press, formerly Cold Spring Publishing, is an independent medical publishing company whose leadership and management team has more than 50 years of experience in oncology.

Although the formal agreement is still in development, ASCO and Harborside Press plan to publish the first issue in June 2010, with a launch at ASCO’s 46th Annual Meeting. The publication will also be available online at www.ASCOPost.com, which will be updated frequently with the latest news and information.

“After studying the environment, we recognized the need for highly validated reporting on need-to-know cancer research and policy news, patient care and clinical practice issues, as well as thoughtful commentary from leaders in the field,” said Dr. Allen Lichter, CEO of ASCO. “As the professional society that promotes and advances the highest quality multidisciplinary cancer care, we have a unique responsibility to help our community stay current in the fast-changing world of clinical oncology. We look forward to working with Harborside Press to provide this new addition to ASCO’s list of award winning publications for oncology professionals.”

“We are thrilled to collaborate with ASCO on the launch of The ASCO Post,” said Jack Gentile, Chairman of Harborside Press. “Our experience in oncology publishing, combined with ASCO’s expertise and leadership in the cancer community, make us an exceptional team.”

The ASCO Post will serve a broad audience of oncology professionals and cover a wide scope of topics, including clinical cancer research released at medical meetings and in journals worldwide, policy developments and oncology practice issues. The publication will include news stories and briefs, feature articles, and commentary on the latest developments in oncology. A portion of the publication will be dedicated to reporting on ASCO news and events.

The ASCO Post will initially be published monthly, with the goal of increasing publication to 18 to 24 times per year after the first year. It will be overseen by a pre-eminent oncologist editor-in-chief (to be named in the coming months) and an editorial board of recognized leaders in oncology. Harborside Press will be responsible for the day-to-day management of the publication and its reporting staff, which will include a team of science writers with extensive experience in oncology reporting.

Audience and Subscriptions
The ASCO Post is intended for everyone with an interest in oncology. As a benefit of membership, the print edition will be distributed to all U.S. ASCO members. U.S. and international ASCO members will receive complimentary online access. In addition, non-ASCO member medical oncologists, hematologists and hematologist/oncologists in the United States will be eligible for a complimentary subscription.

The annual subscription cost for all other subscribers will be $75 for the print or the online edition, and $125 for both editions. For other interested subscribers living outside of the United States, the price will be $125 and $175, respectively.
